From February 22^nd to March 8^th, 2021, the online program on “A Multicultural Vision of World Development Prospect” was successfully held by the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University.

    Funded by “the 2021 Winter Vacation Global Competency Enhancement Program for Students of Jilin University (Online Program)”, the program was jointly organized by the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University and LES Confucius Institute for Business London (LES CIBL) and held a total of 11 lectures. The lectures were delivered on China & the World – Expectation & Advice, Case Study on the Multicultural Media Marketing of Multinational Enterprises, Case Study of Cultural Conflicts under the Belt and Road Initiative, Opportunities and Challenges in the UK: Case study in Business Management, Development Trend of Regional Economic Integration. It provided a platform for students to gain an in-depth understanding of current international political and economic situation and enhance international understanding in a multicultural context. The college’s 26 doctoral and postgraduate students as well as six young teachers majoring in world economy, regional economics, population resource and environmental economics, demography, international politics and world history accomplished the program.

    Based on traditions and advantages of interdisciplinary talent training, the Northeast Asian Studies College attaches great importance to the cultivation of postgraduates’ comprehensive capabilities by providing them with various forms of learning opportunities to expand their international vision and improve their foreign language proficiency. In the context of great changes in the world’s political and economic pattern, the online program places considerable value on the in-depth combination of theory and practice, focusing on not only the mainstream views of the academic community, but also professional views from the front-line practical work in the economic community. The program trainers mainly are leading scholars on international studies from the LSE and senior executives in the UK economic and financial community, among whom are well-known figures in the British business community, such as David Stringer-Lamarre, Chair of the Institute of Directors London Region and Managing Director of Fortis Consulting London (FCL), Martin Gilbert Barrow, Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) and a Company Director of Jardine Matheson Limited, Dr. Hong Lu, Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) and Emissary of Chinese and English culture, Prof. Micheal Mainelli, Sheriff of the City of London and Executive Chairman of Z/Yen Group, and Oliver Shiell, the Founder of Asiability. Based on their work practices and experiences, these scholars explained global hot issues to the students of the program, including development trend of the world economy, regional economic integration, world population development and effective communication on a multi-cultural platform. Courses were also conducted on Sun Tzu's Art of War and English academic writing, policy options and flexible network production since Covid-19, opportunities and challenges in the UK: case study in business management, global economics and implication. Students were led and instructed to carry out practical activities such as group discussions.  

    In the over ten days’ learning, students have acquired professional knowledge to keep up with the changes in the world economy, conducted group research on specific topics with a global perspective and given group presentations in the last session. Many of them won the affirmation and praise of the British judges for their sophisticated topics, accurate analysis, rigorous logic, concise data, and proficient use of spoken English. It showed the high morale of JLU postgraduates who are equipped with solid professional knowledge and huge academic potential.
